Oh, the humanity, and all the passengers screaming around here! I told you, I cannot talk to people … I can’t talk, ladies and gentlemen. Listen, folks, I’m gonna have to stop for a minute because this was the… the worst thing I’ve ever witnessed.”

Como supongo que todo el mundo, he visto el vídeo del Hindenburg estrellándose cientos de veces, pero la verdad es que nunca había escuchado (o me había parado a escuchar) la retransmisión de radio que hizo el pobre hombre que habla en el vídeo, y que parece ser que es “un clásico de la historia sonora”. La hizo Herbert Morrison para la WLS de Chicago, que le mandó al aeródromo de Lakehurst en Nueva Jersey para retransmitir la llegada del zeppelin y que sin comerlo ni beberlo se encontró con el desastre.

Sinceramente, en cierto modo me encanta escuchar a los periodistas en esas situaciones en las que tienen que decir algo, pero están tan acojonados e impresionados que no son capaces de describir lo que están viendo de una manera articulada y sólo dicen tonterías. Es en esos momentos cuando más parecen personas reales. Otro ejemplo.

Curiosamente no murió tanta gente en el Hindenburg. Iban 97 personas y sólo 35 murieron, pero debió ser terrible para todos los que estaban ahí.
